Avionics Europe 2012

Paris Airshow

The Paris Air Show has been the world's leading aviation and
space event for over 100 years. The 2011 Paris Air Show will take place at Le
Bourget exhibition centre from 20 to 26 June 2011, and will once again bring
together all the industry's players worldwide to showcase the latest
technological innovations. The first 4 days of the Show, exclusively for the
industry, are followed by 3 days for the general public. The Paris Air Show is
organised by Salon International de l'Aeronautique et de l'Espace (SIAE), a
subsidiary of GIFAS (the French Aerospace Industries Association).

The Aerodays 2011 event also provided a world-class conference
for information exchange and dissemination of EU-funded R&D results in
aeronautics, developing strong links with partners around the world, so that
Europe could benefit from the worldwide progress of knowledge, contribute to
global development and take a leading role in international initiatives to solve
global issues.
AVOptics represented DAPHNE at this key EU aerospace meeting.
MWP 2010
2010 IEEE International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics
5-9 Oct-2010; Montreal, Canada
Microwave photonics is an inter-disciplinary field that studies
the interactions between microwave and optical waves for generation, processing,
control and distribution of microwave, millimeter-wave and THz signals in the
optical domain. Microwave photonics technologies can find many applications such
as in high-speed wireless communications networks, radar, sensors, and modern
instrumentation. The goal of MWP 2010 is to provide an exciting forum for
researchers to exchange new findings and developments in the area of microwave
photonics.
DAPHNE member INESC will be presenting a paper on "UWB Radio over
Perfluorinated GI-POF for Low-Cost In-Building Networks".

Farnborough International Air Show

The Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) is one of the world's
most iconic global aviation events. FIA holds a prominent position within the
aerospace calendar taking place on a biennial basis (once every two years) over
one week in July. The first five days of the show are traditionally trade days
only, followed by a weekend where the exhibition is opened up to the public. The
most recent airshow, FIA 2008, was a record-breaking year for business with
US$88.7 billion worth of orders announced during the show. 2008’s event also
featured 165 aircraft in static displays and spectacular flying displays and the
public weekend attracted a staggering 153,000 visitors.
Joint FP7 project meeting

DAPHNE has much in common with several other FP7 projects:
ALICIA,
SCARLETT and
ODICIS. A joint meeting was held in
Brussels with the EC and SESAM representatives to ensure that the projects
collaborate effectively, and to allow sharing of results.
NOC/OC&I 2010
15th European Conference on Networks and Optical Communications
5th Conference on Optical Cabling and Infrastructure
8-10 Jun-2010; Faro, Portugal
Networks and Optical Communications (NOC) combines fibre
optics systems, networks and technology within a single event, providing a forum
for the promotion of new opportunities from industry, institutes of technology
and academia. Optical Cabling and Infrastructure (OC&I) explores new alternative
optical fibre and infrastructure technologies to provide innovation and reduce
costs for the introduction of FTTN/B/H deployment.

a paper on "Performance Evaluation of MB-OFDM UWB over GI-POF".

This event was directed at industrial organisations that wish to work closer with the university.
DAPHNE member TU Ilmenau presented a DAPHNE poster at the event ("Economics

FOHEC 2010
Fibre Optics for Harsh Environments Conference
18 & 19 May 2010; Swindon, UK
In recent years fibre optics have seen substantial growth
within the harsh environment market sector, with European industry often leading
the way. The Fibre Optics in Harsh Environments Conference is designed to ensure
industries in this market sector stay up-to-date with current practices and
recent developments in the market place.
The event was organised by DAPHNE member AVOptics, and several other members were at the event. Nigel Aldridge (BAE
Systems) gave a presentation on the project and it proved a very effective
recruitment event for the DAG!
